The seventy-nine-year-old fashion designer who we all know for his famous shirts with a polo player logo has become the first American to receive the UK’s highest honour for services in fashion. After 50 years of bringing stunning ideas into the fashion industry, the living icon was presented with the honorary knighthood insignia by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Ralph Lauren has officially been given the award on Wednesday (19th of June) during the private ceremony in Buckingham Palace.

“To have the honorary KBE conferred on me by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and presented to me personally by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is an honour I have humbly accepted,” said Ralph Lauren in a statement reported by People.

We must say that this is really a big thing. Do you know why? Not only because the award comes from Her Majesty The Queen, but also because since last week the official Ralph Lauren’s title changed into: Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE). It sounds awesome, doesn’t it?

What is also worth mentioning is the fact that this is not the first time when the chief creative officer for Ralph Lauren is receiving an award. Key to the City of New York, the French Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur and many other honours were given to Lauren. Nevertheless, the latest one is truly remarkable.

Ralph Lauren is best known for the Polo Ralph Lauren line. However, his garments vary from sportswear to evening gowns. That is why the number of royals including Princess Diana and the duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex have worn Lauren’s designs.

The owner of the world’s largest fashion and apparel empires said “I have always been inspired by the history, traditions, and culture of Great Britain and the historic relationship our two countries have shared. This is one of the most meaningful honour’s bestowed at this very special moment in my 50th anniversary.”

Looks like the United Kingdom is getting closer with the United States. Anyway, this month Ralph Lauren Corporation has also announced that they will continue to support The Royal Marsden hospital, which in 2016 opened The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research. Moreover, a new facility will open the Oak Cancer Centre, which will host 300 researchers and an expected 140,000 patients each year.

Well, Ralph Lauren’s contribution to the world is clearly visible. His fabulous designs still have a fresh touch and marvel the customer each season. Don’t tell us that this is not a good enough reason for him to be knighted by the Queen.

Who would you give an award to? Would it be Ralph Lauren?
