Whenever we feel like we’re in need of some style inspiration for the new season, social media is always the fastest and the easiest way out. Countless images showcasing us the latest trends and how to wear them really make it feel like we have it all in one click. However, for those of us who strive for some nostalgia and deeper meaning in our lives this way of getting inspired might get too shallow too quick. That is why the Luxe Designers team is proposing you to take a walk down the memory lane and look for fashion inspiration for spring/summer 2019 in 5 classic movies featuring 5 female icons.
La Piscine with Jane Birkin
The whole story portrays a complicated relationship and feelings of jealousy and possessiveness in the middle of Côte d’Azur. All the troublesome feelings aside, throughout the film all eyes are on Jane Birkin who shows off beautiful gingham minidresses, crisp cotton shirts and statement swimwear by André Courrèges. One of the most popular trends of SS19 portrayed in this classical film is the crochet cover-ups seen on the runaways of JW Anderson, Chloé and Oscar de la Renta. This trend is great if you’re going on holiday soon and looking for some stylish addition to your luggage.
Paris When it Sizzles with Audrey Hepburn
Collaboration between Hubert de Givenchy and the all-time muse Audrey Hepburn definitely resulted in some of the most iconic looks in the fashion world and beyond. Her eccentric outfits in this 1964 comedy are definitely the proof of that. The colour palette consists of mesmerizing pastels – baby pink shirts, pistachio-coloured skirt suits and peach silk dresses accompanied by bow laden hats and top-handle bags.
Stealing Beauty with Liv Tyler
This coming-of-age story follows a young woman who travels around Tuscany in search of her biological father, played by the charming Liv Tyler. Even though the Italian scenery is breathtaking, the eyes of the audience inevitably stumbles upon Tyler’s romantic outfits. Moody florals, delicate chiffon dresses and straw hats were definitely used as an inspiration for the SS19 runway of Altuzarra and could inspire you while you’re getting your wardrobe fresh for spring.
Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts
Well this Pretty Woman definitely doesn’t need an introduction. As well as her polka-dot dress with matching hat, sorbet-coloured city shorts with boxy blazer and that divine red opera gown. A true inspiration for spring/summer 2019 not only for all of us but for designers Gabriela Hearst, Emilia Wickstead and Alessandra Rich as well.
Dazed and Confused with Milla Jovovich
This Richard Linklater’s comedy became a hit the second it was released in 1993 not only because of the amazing soundtrack but of the 60s and 70s fashion that is widely appreciated in the fashion world, the newest examples being the SS19 runways of Paco Rabanne and Etro. How can you blame them when Milla Jovovich is slaying literally every look, from fringe vests and washed denim jeans to suede separates and souvenir necklaces.
